Late last night, a fire broke out at Dagwood’s Deli & Sports Bar in Surfside Beach.
The Surfside Beach Fire Department responded to an employee’s call around midnight at the restaurant, located at 600 US-17 BUS. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident.
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke emerging from an air handler. As the smoke thickened, crews discovered the fire in the ventilation system and the roof, which was quickly extinguished. Some repairs will be necessary to restore the building, according to a Facebook post from SBFD.
The Dagwood’s team also shared an update to Facebook, expressing gratitude for the quick response from employees and local fire departments. “For those that haven’t seen, we did experience a fire last night. We are grateful for fast acting employees and the incredible Surfside and Horry County Fire Departments! We’ll have more information today! Definitely opening back up ASAP!”
A representative for the deli told What Now Charleston that while a precise reopening timeline is still unknown, the team hopes to return in a few weeks. “Thankfully, no one was hurt first and foremost,” said the representative. “We are early in, most [of the fire] was contained in kitchen. We will know better later about timeline.”
Dagwood’s is known for its made-to-order deli sandwiches, served hot or cold in a variety of sizes. Over the past 25 years, the restaurant has flourished under the ownership of Jonathan Staton, who established two new locations.
While the Surfside Beach location is under repair, patrons are encouraged to visit Dagwood’s other locations in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, or its sister establishment, Bumstead’s Pub, in Myrtle Beach.
