A new Checkers restaurant is under construction in West Ashley alongside the West Ashley Medical Center, set to open later this fall.
A new building is being built to house the fast-food location at 3690 Ashley Crossing Drive. A representative for franchise company The Falcons Group says this location will be among the first to sport the national chain’s new look.
The Falcons Group already operates three other Checkers locations in the Charleston area – in Summerville on Main St, and in North Charleston on Dorchester Rd and on Remount Rd. CEO Shamsu Charania says they are planning to bring more locations to the city in the future. The group, which is based in Atlanta, also operates Dunkin’ Donuts, Baskin Robbins, and TGI Friday’s franchises across the Southeast.
Checkers and Rally’s is based out of Tampa and currently has more than 525 locations across 24 states. The restaurant announced their plan for rapid growth earlier this year after unveiling new branding at the end of 2022, with 40 to 50 restaurants in the pipeline for 2023. They have credited their drive-up only service for their ability to quickly scale and drive profit.
The West Ashley Checkers is targeting a late November opening.
