PopUp Bagels is coming to Raleigh, with the fast-growing bagel concept signing a lease at 2018 Cameron St. in the Village District. The space, formerly occupied by Kale Me Crazy, is now the subject of a $425,000 renovation permit that will prepare it for the new tenant, Triangle Business Journal reported.
The planned work includes framing, interior finishes, millwork, and equipment. The storefront is located along the Village District shopping center’s row of businesses, which includes Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, MyEyeDr., Charlotte’s and Village Deli and Grill, according to the Triangle Business Journal.
Raleigh will be the latest Carolinas market for PopUp Bagels. The brand already operates two Charlotte locations and a Charleston shop, following its continued expansion beyond its Connecticut roots.
PopUp Bagels keeps its food menu intentionally simple, offering plain, everything, poppy seed, salt and sesame bagels. Customers can pair them with classic schmears including plain or scallion cream cheese, salted butter and brown sugar cinnamon butter, according to the company’s website.
The menu also includes smoked salmon and a selection of beverages, including orange juice, lemonade, strawberry lemonade, iced tea, hot drip coffee and cold brew. PopUp Bagels sells its bagels by the bag and centers the experience around its “Grip, Rip and Dip” format, according to the company.
Founded by Adam Goldberg, PopUp Bagels began in Westport, Connecticut, before expanding into a national brand. The Triangle Business Journal reported that the company has approximately 49 locations across 18 states and Washington, D.C.
The Village District is owned and managed by Regency Centers and has become one of the Triangle’s sought-after retail destinations. According to the publication, the shopping center has a waitlist of retailers interested in securing space there.
An opening date for the Raleigh location has not yet been announced. The renovation permit marks the latest step toward bringing PopUp Bagels to its first Raleigh location.
