Life Time Athletic is exploring a second club in the Charlotte region, with a proposed 93,000-square-foot athletic and wellness facility at Charlotte Highway and Red Ventures Drive in Indian Land. The Charlotte Business Journal reported on the proposal in an October 19 article shared by its Instagram account, noting that the Minnesota-based company is seeking to rezone nearly 13 acres for the development.
The proposed project would transform the property from mixed-use zoning to a regional business district, a change that would allow a large private recreation facility. According to the planning commission agenda cited by the Charlotte Business Journal, the proposed building would span two stories, with more than 50,000 square feet of additional outdoor space dedicated to pools and decking.
Natalie Bushaw, the company’s vice president of corporate communications, told the Charlotte Business Journal that it was too early to share further details because of the real estate and development process. She added that the company’s immediate focus remains on its existing clubs.
The proposed facility would follow Life Time’s arrival in the Charlotte market in 2017, when it opened its flagship club at Rea Farms in south Charlotte. The company invested more than $50 million in that location, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.
Life Time’s athletic clubs combine fitness equipment and group exercise with recreational and wellness amenities. Its existing Charlotte location offers activities and facilities such as tennis, pickleball, swimming pools, cycling, barre and Pilates, alongside spa and recovery features, according to the company’s published club information.
The Indian Land proposal remains subject to the rezoning and development process, and no opening date has been announced. If approved and developed, the facility would extend Life Time’s presence across the Charlotte region into South Carolina.
