Antigua Mexican Grill, the Mexican restaurant specializing in the original flavors of Zacatecas, Mexico, is opening a new location in Huntley at 10716 Route 47.

The company’s third location will move into the shuttered Tobacco Hut sometime in Fall 2023, according to the Daily Herald. Owner Luis Rodriguez first opened Antigua Mexican Grill in Crystal Lake in 2018 before expanding to a second location in Algonquin last year. Rodriguez still must submit final plans to the village and get permits, which will take a couple of months to receive. When the new Huntley location opens, customers can expect traditional Mexican cuisine inspired by Rodriguez’s hometown of Zacatecas, Mexico.

Rodriguez has actually owned the land since 2020, but the restaurant requested a few variations from the village code, which was approved by the village board. A few of these variations include a new 8-foot fence at the rear of the property, a 34-foot setback from the road, rather than the 50 feet normally required, and a variation on where the restaurant can keep its garbage.

“We decided to go to Huntley because we have many customers there,” Rodriguez tells the Daily Herald. “I see a lot of potential in Huntley because it’s growing really fast. We really love this community. I hope everybody loves this location the way they love our other ones.”

When Antigua Mexican Grill opens later this year, customers can expect a handful of Mexican classics, including appetizers, soups, salads, enchiladas, fajitas, specialty tacos, tortas, chimichangas, and plenty of signature cocktails. The restaurant also offers several entrees that are considered ‘Antigua’s Recipes.’
