A popular Lincoln Park bar with a volleyball court that was closed by the owners four years ago is coming back with an outdoor patio and a sleeker look.
It was previously reported by What Now Chicago that Augie’s Booze and Schmooze at 1721 W Wrightwood Avenue closed in 2021 and the owners were planning a reopening in 2023. Following delays, Michael and Isabelle Nigro are planning on reopening the space with the new patio and redesigned interior.
According to an article from Block Club Chicago, the bar has been in the Lincoln Park neighborhood for almost 30 years, supporting the community through events and sponsoring softball teams. Michael and Isabella are longtime owners, and they had to close the business after both being diagnosed with cancer. Now that they are recovering and are working on the space, they’ve decided they are brining Augie’s back by late June.
“It feels amazing. I don’t think we’ll feel great until it’s open,” Isabelle told What Now Chicago.
In the new space, there will be a new menu, and the restaurant will be more “kid-friendly,” according to the article. Their previous menu had sandwiches, wraps and appetizers to snack on. There is not an exact date of opening, but Isabelle said as an electrical issue was recently resolved they are set for the end of June.
“We’re just real excited to have all the neighbors,” Isabelle said.
