Friistyle, dedicated entirely to Belgian fries, is looking to move into a new site in Washington Park, located at 353-363 E. 51st St.

This second location will be a part of a two-story multi-million dollar mixed-use development by Policy Kings, which includes six eco-sustainable apartments, indoor and outdoor dining, an elevated gym, and two shoe stores. Policy Kings, an initiative from James Daughrity and Friistyle owner Corey Gilkey, “combines architectural innovation with environmentalism, cultural elevation diversity and effortless cool,” according to Block Club Chicago. The project will open in four phases and will be completely open by late 2023.

Friistyle takes pride in serving a Chicago take on Belgian-style Pomme Frites with various toppings. An example of their fries would be the Italian beef frite with Chicago-style Italian beef, Asiago, giardiniera cheese sauce, and au jus on a bed of fresh pomme frites. Other toppings include smoked chicken wings, lamb, jerk salmon, roasted veggies, chicken alfredo, lobster, and Caribbean shrimp. The proudly black-owned restaurant has options for delivery and catering.

“One of the beautiful truths about Belgian-style pommes frites is that you can dress them in just about anything — classic ketchup, truffle mayo, perhaps a white-wine broth paired with a bowl of mussels — and the result will be delicious,” according to the company’s website. “But no one in Chicago is making Pommes Frites quite like Friistyle, an unassuming, fast-casual joint that opened in Bronzeville just [under three years] ago.”
