A new restaurant from the Mexicana chain Burrito Parrilla is coming to Crystal Lake this year.
The Daily Herald recently reported the company is building a new location at 855 E Terra Cotta Avenue, replacing the former Burger King. It will have a drive-thru window and indoor seating. According to co-founder of Burrito Parrilla Manny Favela, it will be opening close to the end of the year.
Favela told What Now Chicago he is also planning a new location in Plainfield to open later this year. The timeline for opening and the address has not yet been disclosed. He said they are currently at a rate of introducing one new restaurant per year.
The company has been around since 2010, offering menu items like burritos, tortas, tacos, salads and fajitas. The two new locations would bring the company up to 13 operating restaurants in Illinois. Other plans for expansion have not been disclosed.
The new burrito spot will be near the corner of Terra Cotta Avenue and Route 31. Other restaurants at this corner are Tommy’s Red Hots and McDonalds.
For construction, Favela said the structure for the Crystal Lake location needs to be lifted, and there will be a complete redesign. The only part of the Burger King building that will remain is the walls. He said he wants the new restaurant to “reflect the brand.”
