A coffee company from San Jose is moving into the South Side of the Windy City.
It was recently revealed that Con Azucar Cafe is coming to 801 S Financial Place in South Loop this year. This marks the company’s first expansion into the region, with four more cafes planned soon. Franchisees Andrew DeBrie and Gerardo Ortiz told What Now Chicago the opening date will be sometime around Cinco De Mayo.
Debrie and Ortiz have been planning the new cafe since July 2025, and they described the location as a sort of “refresh.” While keeping the themes of the California locations, it will have a more modern look with a different menu. Debrie said he and the team want to give the area “something that is uniquely Chicago.”
The cafes offer hot and cold brews like Americanos, cappuccinos and iced lattes. For bites, locations serve avocado toast and sandwiches like their BLT and the club with mayo, ham, turkey and bacon. Guests at the Chicago locations can expect new menu items.
With around 15 locations around California, the company has also opened in Nebraska and around Texas, with additional California cafes planned. In the next year-and-a-half, they two plan on opening four more franchised locations throughout the Chicago area, including in Park Ridge. The opening dates and exact addresses have not yet been disclosed.
Con Azucar Cafe will be in the heart of Printer’s Row, just north of Roosevelt Collection Shops. Many apartment buildings are in this area, and it is just east of the river. The lease was just recently signed.
