Not much is known about the new project Zubair Mohajir is cooking up in the North Side neighborhood.

From Block Club Chicago, Mohajir is introducing a new concept in Lincoln Park this spring. Mohajir will be the chef and run the restaurant. The location has not been confirmed, but it will serve dishes influenced by regions like East Asia and Southern Spain.

“Don’t worry, this is not a message of an anticipated closure, but rather a notification of evolution,” said a recent Instagram post from Mohajir and Coach House.

His departure from Coach House, 1742 W Division Street, is due to a revolving chef residency which lets chefs around the city bring their cuisine to the restaurant for a certain amount of time. Mohajir will no longer be the chef serving the building starting Feb. 19, and he will then pursue his new venture in Lincoln Park. At coach house, his seven-course meals include appetizers like jackfruit croquette, scallops, salmon mousse and lamb dumplings.

Mohajir has been a driving force for international cuisine across Chicago, opening concepts like Mirra in Bucktown and Lilac Tiger in Wicker Park. From a young age in India and Qatar, he was interested in cooking and moved to the U.S. to pursue this craft. He has worked in many other restaurants around the country including at Bouchon, a Michelin-starred establishment in Yountville, California.

For Lincoln Park, Mohajir hopes to also include a speakeasy in the building. He has not given any updates on construction or whereabouts in Lincoln Park he is setting up shop.

When What Now Chicago reached out to Mohajir for comment, he was not available as he was in the middle of coach prep. He is expected to give more details early next week, and this article may be updated.
