Following three years of serving coffee in Avondale, owners of Cultura Ccafe are moving to a new location and introducing a new concept.
It was reported by Block Club Chicago that Cultura Ccafe is rebranding as Terra Coffee and coming to 3341 W Belmont Avenue. This is down the street from their cafe which recently closed and is now The People’s Cafe. Co-owner Jocelyn Telles said the opening date is looking like late December or early January.
The new cafe will have a larger menu with coffees sourced from a farm in Antigua, Guatemala. Coffees served at their Cultura Ccafe location included the horchata latte with two espresso shots and horchata, cappuccinos and americanos. Teas, smoothies, breakfast burritos, empanadas and bakery items were also on the menu.
Telles is organizing this project with her mother and business partner Claudia Quinonez. In a recent social media update, Telles said they were originally hoping to open in early November, but construction delays and permitting have delayed the process.
“We are waiting on permits from the city, and once we get that we will have a better estimate on our opening date,” Telles told What Now Chicago.
Terra Coffee is themed to a volcanic eruption and their Guatemalan roots. It is placed next to the Belmont Blue Line station, so they are hoping to draw users of public transit. Also in the plaza are a Subway and Eat First Chinese restaurant.
The Poeple’s Cafe is now open, and it is a space to build community while grabbing a coffee or pastry. While this location is up and running, Telles and Quinonez will continue to work on their shop to debut it this winter.
