According to a recent article from Block Club Chicago, Cafe Consume will open its doors at 3452 South Western Avenue in McKinley Park.
“The specific opening date for the cafe has not yet been set, but it will be sometime in early 2024,” owner Andrés Merlos told What Now Chicago.
“Cafe Consume will have coffee beans sourced directly from Guatemala, and alongside that will be pastries and bagels. As Cafe Consume continues to evolve, we will be expanding our offerings to include specialty foods that complement our coffee selections. These surprises will be introduced gradually, and we will initially start with our coffee, then later introduce our kitchen.”
“The aesthetics are minimalistic and rooted in the charm of vintage and industrial influences. Many of the shop’s adornments are pieces that were salvaged and repurposed, seamlessly blending with the interior. A terracotta piece will be embedded into the wall adding an industrial touch. We will also have antique signage in the space that has been refurbished as well.”
“The layout is open and uncluttered, allowing customers to witness the coffee-making process and kitchen operations firsthand. One of the highlights of Cafe Consume to come will be the outdoor patio. With the space, customers can relax and revel in live music performances. On weekends, we aim to have the patio transform into a marketplace for vintage marketplaces, inviting you to browse and unearth unique finds.”
“My vintage shop, Consume Vintage, is also a family-owned and operated business, alongside Cafe Consume. The buildout of Cafe Consume is the same as Consume Vintage, which was done with the help of my father,” Merlos added.
