Gnarly Knots Pretzel Company is looking to relocate to Lombard, located at 100 W. St. Charles Rd.

The company, originally located at 27W570 High Lake Rd., waited until National Pretzel day (April 26) to permanently close its Winfield location. Now, co-owners Funi McLoughlin and Matt Finn are getting ready to move into the former home of The Corner House, hopefully by Summer 2022. The duo of owners says the reason for the relocation comes down to their small kitchen space and customers’ constant complaints of lack of public restrooms. An official opening date is unknown, as the new location is undergoing the city’s permitting process.

Gnarly Knots first opened in 2013 and quickly became a popular pretzel destination after being featured on Travel Channel and Food Network. The company attempted to expand to a second location in 2017 through a franchise opportunity, but unfortunately, the Barrington location did not survive the pandemic. The owners were actually going to close the Winfield location a few weeks prior, but decided to keep it open in honor of National Pretzel Day.

“We’re really sad to be leaving,” McLoughlin told The Daily Herald. “We’ll be about 12,000 pretzels shy of having sold a million pretzels in Winfield over the past nine years, which is extraordinary. We have Winfield to thank for that.”
