Changes are coming to the bubble tea spot in downtown Evanston

Evanston Roundtable recently reported that Happy Lemon, at 1607 Chicago Avenue, is taking a break and will reopen with a “new look.” The cafe is now listed as temporarily closed, with no prior announcement on social media.

“We’re taking a short break for something fresh & fabulous!” Says the sign on their door. “Stay tuned for a sweet new look!”

The bubble tea spot is known for their unique flavors like milk tea with Oreo and puff cream, and green tea with salted cheese. The cafe also sells a “bubble waffle” with egg-shaped bubbles and flavors such as chocolate, cheese, matcha and Oreo.

Evanston is not the only area with a Happy Lemon location in Illinois as there is also a bubble tea spot in Champaign at 612 E Daniel Street. The company operates cafes all across the country with around 100 locations, and franchising opportunities are available. Their Evanston location opened in 2021.

The shop is near the corner of Davis Street, next to Joy Yee Noodle and across from Mensch’s Deli. As there are businesses directly next to Happy Lemon, it is not confirmed if they will expand inside the building.

Currently, Trinh Le is the owner of the space, and in the past she has planned several other locations in Chicagoland. When What Now Chicago reached out to owner Le, she was not available for comment.
