White Castle, the American hamburger chain with more than 375 locations across 13 states, is getting ready to renovate its site in Hoffman Estates at 1100 W. Golf Rd.

The corporate location is expected to begin construction in April, with a completion date scheduled for October 2023, according to the Daily Herald. Hoffman Estates village board members recently approved a renovation plan to add a bypass lane to the drive-through at the northeast corner of Golf Road and Gannon Drive. This addition would remove 27 parking spaces, allowing for additional green space on the 1.25-acre lot and improved handicapped accessibility.

Due to the nature of the construction, White Castle plans to close the dining room for four weeks at some point, followed by the closure of the drive-through for another four weeks and finishing off with the entire restaurant closing for another four weeks. When it is open, the 24-hour White Castle will have a brand-new interior and exterior, with 41 parking spots, eight trees, and a new pedestrian walkway and crosswalk to connect to the sidewalk along Golf Road.

The company, founded by Billy Ingram and Walter Anderson, recently celebrated its centennial anniversary in 2021. More than 100 years later, the burger chain has at least 377 locations across 13 states, mainly in the Midwest and New York metropolitan areas. It is unclear whether or not the renovated restaurant will feature The Flippy Model 2, an automated cooking robot first developed in Chicagoland and now found within one in three White Castle locations.
