One Skokie business owner is working with the village to introduce her concept this spring.

From The Record North Shore, Hummingbird Hideaway is a new cafe serving acai bowls coming to 5118 Oakton Street. This comes from owner Amy Feldman who has worked in food service companies in the Chicago area. Feldman told What Now Chicago she is hoping to debut the spot this May.

Feldman said she and the team are still refining the menu, but it will for sure feature acai fruit bowls, smoothies and pastries. Acai bowls have become popular in recent years, being served at businesses including Tropical Smoothie Cafe in the area. The Brazilian-based snack will be served with toppings like vanilla yogurt and granola.

“This is a spot to relax, recharge and reconnect,” says the description on their Facebook page. “Serving nutritious and delicious bowls, smoothies and snacks that will make you smile!”

Feldman is a local of Skokie, with experience at food service companies including Lifeway Foods. She has been planning the new acai spot for about six months. As a goal, she wanted to create a space that gives back to the community.

The project was listed on the Village of Skokie website in late December, noting that grant funds could be provided to the restaurant during construction. The business is not yet listed when searching up the address.

Hummingbird Hideaway will share building space with Ascione Bistro Skokie, and there are also apartment units above the business. This is also next to the Skokie Heritage Museum in the village’s downtown.

More information on the opening date will be provided on their website soon.
