Chicago’s Near North Side is about to get a lot sweeter.
Jenni’s Splendid Ice Cream has been redefining how Americans eat ice cream since 2002. Founded by entrepreneur and ice cream afficianado Jeni Britton Bauer, the past two decades have treated the brand quite kindly, and Jeni’s humble ice cream shop has since expanded into a continent-expanding empire.
In 2002, ice cream was in a very different place than it is today. At the time, Jeni had a vision to use whole ingredients and dairy from grass-pastured cows, which set her apart from her synthetic-flavoring-using competition. Jeni quickly made a name for herself with her passion for ice cream and unique flavor combinations.
Jeni’s ice creams are known for their smooth texture and buttercream body, as the absence of artificial stabilizers and emulsifiers creates a more natural texture. Jeni’s has become exceptionally popular lately thanks to their focus on rare and unsual ice cream flavors like Everything Bagel, Maple Soaked Pancakes, Butter Cake, Skillet Cinnamon Roll, and Middle West Whiskey & Pecans.
Today, the popular ice cream brand now boasts over 60 brick-and-mortar storefronts across the US, including nine in Chicago alone. Evidently the city can’t get enough, as Jeni’s is planning a brand new outpost at 871 N Wabash Ave. Located in the middle of Connors Park, the new location is perfect for summer city strolls, right across the street from Loyola University. The project had been in the works for some time, but recently received the permits necessary to move forward. You can follow Jeni’s Ice Cream on Instagram for further updates, as well as mouthwatering photos of their signature ice cream.
