A brand new firehouse-themed restaurant called Station 52 will be making its way to Lake Zurich, located at 377 N. Rand Rd.

The new restaurant, a follow-up to Station 51 Truck Company Bar & Grill in downtown Antioch, will move into the former home of Fritzl’s European Restaurant & Pub, which served the area for 36 years. Owner Kris Schoenberger is planning extensive renovations to create a “twin brother” of the Antioch location, except it will be about four times as big. The project is supposed to be completed in 2024 and will be Schoenberger’s fifth restaurant, following the three locations of his other restaurant.

Schoenberger has made a name for himself as a grill master, opening his first business, a full-service BBQ sports bar & catering/ event company called BBQ’d Productions, in 2014. A few years later, in 2017, he expanded to a second location on Route 12, followed by a third location in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in late 2020. The chef then opened Station 51 last June, cementing his place in Chicagoland.

When he opens this new restaurant in the area, it will join several other eateries and businesses that have recently moved in, including Korean Blue Ridge BBQ, Hay Chihuahua Mexican, Vault 232, Popeyes, La Michoacana, and most recently, Life Time Fitness, which Station 52 will sit across from. Lake Zurich is also planning to open the Sanctuary of Lake Zurich, a mixed-use project that includes 23 townhouses and a high-end Italian steakhouse.

“We’re all thrilled to welcome yet another high-quality, unique restaurant destination to Lake Zurich,” Kyle Kordell, assistant to the village manager, tells The Daily Herald. “With the completion of the Life Time project, the Sanctuary development fully underway, and now Station 52 announcing plans to invest in our village, we know that Lake Zurich continues to be a desirable place to grow businesses and plan for the future.”
