A food group specializing in African cuisine is bringing a new restaurant to the city very soon.
Mama’s African Kitchen recently submitted a liquor license application for 6606 N Sheridan Road in Rogers Park. This is set to open on Sept. 13. Owner Memoire Budimbu said there is another location that is being planned for the near future.
The food group is called The Best of Africa Group, and they currently have two locations in Chicagoland, one at 202 East University Avenue in Urbana and the other at 1807 West Bradley Avenue in Champaign. They specialize in authentic African cuisine such as beef kabobs, makayabu, fufu and desserts as well. Their products are also sold online, ranging from meats and stews to seasonings.
The new shop will be going in next to the BobNgrill Korean restaurant, near the corner of W Albion Avenue. Thai is on the south side of the neighborhood, just a few blocks from Hartigan Beach Park.
Plans for another future location have not been finalized yet. Budimbu said right now, he and his team are focusing on the new Rogers Park location, which he has been planning since March of this year. He started out as a Congolese immigrant, and with the help of co-owner Lisette Mbaki he built a food group in Champaign.
The grand opening for the new Rogers Park location is happening at 1 p.m. on Sept. 13 at their listed address. For more information on Mama’s African Kitchen, visit their website.
