The Uptown coffee shop Ridman’s Coffee has taken on new ownership at its location at 4758 N. Clark St.

The coffee shop was initially founded by Sarah Riddle and Katy Weseman in 2017. Now, Ryan Haynes and Danielle Holtz are taking over Ridman’s Coffee, obtaining the business over the winter, according to Block Club Chicago. Haynes had worked at the coffee shop as one of the few employees to make it through the pandemic and eventually became close with the owners. Before this, Haynes has a decade of experience in the service industry, while Holtz worked full-time for Chicago Public Schools.

“We had this vision of keeping it small and clearing space for a dance floor but still using Ridman’s couches and armchairs,” Holtz tells Block Club Chicago. “It snowed all day, and the floor-to-ceiling windows created a snow globe effect that was just beautiful. We danced the night away.”

The two have already added more natural light, hung up new art, and introduced more drinks to the menu. Another change they hope to implement more environmentally sustainable practices to reduce waste. Employees will also have up to $10 in free treats for anyone who isn’t able to pay for their order. Once things are settled, the owners hope to use the space to invite artists for open mic nights. Despite the few changes, the new owners hope to preserve the shop’s atmosphere.

“We felt really passionate about maintaining the spirit of the vibrancy the original owners brought to the shop and were just looking for things to add,” Holtz said. “Ridman’s is well-loved. We didn’t want to fix something that wasn’t broken. This place has always felt like home to us, and we wanted to hang onto that feeling.”
