A longtime sandwich shop in Waukegan is entering a new chapter at a local food court.
The new hoagie spot will be going in at the Picnic Digital Food Court at 3517 N Spaulding Avenue in Avondale. This is set to be the second addition for the restaurant, the original being at 2807 Grand Avenue in Waukegan. Right now, it is listed as coming in September.
The new location for the hoagie hut looks to be providing takeout options as many other restaurants are operating at the Picnic Digital Food Court. These include Bowls of Rice, Bunch of Dumplings, Impossible Shop vegan burgers and Le Cafe Station. In the Facebook post from The Original Chicago Hoagie Hut owner Vikki Kasemir, Wing Nut Wings & Things will also be going in at the same address.
“Subs grilled to order” is the motto of the hoagie hut. The restaurant first opened in the Highwood suburb in 1966, later moving to Waukegan. Now, four generations later, the family recipes for hoagies live on.
At the Waukegan location, sandwiches served include the cheese steak, steak bacon, grilled chicken and turkey. Hot dogs and polish sandwiches are also served on site. The menu of the Picnic Digital Food Court spot is expected to be similar or the same.
