A new Italian restaurant is in the works for the northern suburb.
The establishment called Pelago Cafe looks to be opening soon at 325 Waukegan Avenue in Highwood. This is a concept from locals Mada Ugolini-Hitchmough and Ruthie Amidei, who are cousins. An opening date has not been announced.
In a recent social media post, construction workers were seen working on the exterior of the building, and it is confirmed there will be outdoor seating. No menu has been released, but their social media has shown dishes like lasagna and tortellacci being made.
“We are cousins who love to create lovely food recipes and meals that reflect our Italian roots,” says the description on their Facebook page.
The restaurant is opening at the former Vogue Nails Lounge space, and is near other restaurants on the street including The Toadstool Pub, Tapas Del Lago and The Cuisine American Bistro. This is also a short walk from the Highwood Metra station.
What Now Chicago has reached out to the owners of Pelago Cafe, and this article may be updated.
