A kitchen serving the community of Beach Park is heading south for a new kind of serving option.

Sabor Cardonita has announced on social media a new food truck is parking in Waukegan. There is not a specific address yet as owner Jonathan Torres is determining where in the city he wants to set up shop. As soon as Torres gets the permits, he can start up the food trailer in about one-to-two months.

Sabor Cardonita currently operates as a kitchen in Beach Park, serving Columbian and Puerto Rican dishes like steak jibarito, Colombian empanadas and loaded tostones. The kitchen also serves desserts including cheesecake flavored with caramel and chocolate. All of their menu items are available on their Facebook page.

“Wherever we go, our flavors stay the same. Nothing like fresh ingredients and quality family recipes,” says the description on their website.

In a recent post, components for the kitchen had been delivered including the fridge. The current kitchen operates in Beach Park from 1-4 p.m. on Sundays. The new food trailer will serve their signature dishes more consistently.

Torres said the trailer will be just based in Waukegan for the time being. There is the possibility of branching out to other parts of Northeast Illinois in the future, but they plan on serving Waukegan residents until then. More information on the food truck’s opening date will be released on their social media pages.
