Schneider Deli, formerly known as Schneider Provisions, is getting closer to making its debut in River North, located at 600 N. La Salle Dr.
After several pop-ups in the area, owner Jake Schneider is about to open a brick-and-mortar in the former home of Leghorn Chicken and Cafe Tola near the site of the Ohio Street Motel. Schneider recently announced on social media he expects to open this site in Summer 2023. Schneider Provisions’ pop-ups offered a handful of meats, fish, jars, pickles, accouterments, sides, and extras. Schneiders Deli will likely have a handful of sandwich options similar to its pop-ups.
Schneider has made a name for himself through these pop-ups across Chicagoland, including at the Kedzie Inn for the Reader’s weekly chef pop-up during Monday Night Football. Here, customers found hot sandwiches such as traditional corned beef and mustard; turkey on rye; brisket in Italian beef jus with Russian dressing; and marinated eggplant and latkes stacked on a challah bun.
“Fueled by our love of all Jewish foods and a longing for the delis of the past, we are proud to produce traditional, quality Jewish recipes passed down through the generations and deliver them to you from our home base in Chicago,” according to the company’s website. “We are inspired by the strong Jewish women in our lives who have always cooked for us with passion and joy, and we strive to preserve their history and technique in everything we create. Always small batch, always big taste, sure to pickle your fancy.”
CORRECTION: The previous article had incorrectly listed the owner’s name as Jack instead of Jake. Also, the Ohio Street Motel is not closed.
