Small Cheval, A retro-style burger joint with a stripped-down menu of the essential burgers, appears to be coming to Wrigleyville, located at 1119 W Waveland Ave.

The restaurant, a smaller version of the upscale Au Cheval, currently has locations in Wicker Park, Old Town, and within Aster Hall. According to Southport Corridor, the restaurant is getting ready to open a new location in the former home of Maddon’s Post, a few minutes away from Wrigley Field. The publication reports the new site is expected to open sometime in Summer 2022, when guests can enjoy shakes, shots, beer, and draft cocktails on a spacious patio during the warmer months.

The new Small Cheval isn’t the only new business moving into the area. On the other side of the building, FoxTrot will be taking over the former Starbucks Reserve, which closed in 2020. Both of these new restaurants will significantly improve Wrigleyville and become the new go-to food spots for sports fans after a Cubs game.

Small Cheval, owned and operated by Hogsalt Hospitality, first opened in Wicker Park in 2015. The stripped-down menu is very similar to the favorites found at West Loop’s Au Cheval, except focusing on burgers, fries, and other American classics. The main difference between the two restaurants is that Small Cheval doesn’t serve Au Cheval’s signature thick-cut, pork belly-like bacon, although crispy bacon strips can still be added to any burger.
