Small Cheval, the beloved Chicago micro chain with a stripped-down menu of Au Cheval, appears to be opening a new location in Lincoln Square at 2156 W Montrose Ave.

Earlier this year, the company received permits for the interior demolition of the basement and first floor for the build-out of a new restaurant, according to the permit’s work description. The potential new Small Cheval looks to move into the former home of Chicago Waldorf School – Early Childhood Center. The building of the now-closed school was sold for $750,000, according to Lowe Group Chicago. The building includes 4,200 square feet of space, with 2,800 square feet on the main level and 1,400 square feet on the second.

It doesn’t appear Small Cheval will be using the second floor, which is advertised to be converted into an apartment. This new location will likely open late this year, possibly early next year. Small Cheval has sites in West Loop, Old Town, Wicker Park, Riverside, Hyde Park, Wrigleyville, and Gold Coast, making this the company’s eighth location. Representatives from the company could not be reached by What Now Chicago for comments.

Like all other locations, customers can expect all of the classics from a stripped-down menu, including cheeseburgers, hamburgers, and fries, as well as shakes, shots, beer, and cocktails. Many of these locations feature spacious patios that are perfect during the warmer months. This will be a great location for the new Small Cheval, considering the corner of Montrose and Lincoln Avenues have plenty of foot traffic. The restaurant will also sit across from Welles Park.
