The bustling Roscoe Street is getting a pizza spot that has been praised for their Neapolitan-style pies.
The owner of Strapoli Pizza, Marcial Bereciartu, recently submitted a liquor license application for 2054 W Roscoe Street. Right now, there is no opening date as the project was just recently announced.
Strapoli Pizza first opened in December 2023 at 545 W Diversey Parkway in Lincoln Park. It is a Venezuelan pizzaiolo concept that serves Neapolitan-style pies. In a recent Instagram post, staff teased the new location by first thanking customers for their loyalty to the restaurant. It also mentions some have expressed they want a Strapoli location in their neighborhood.
“Our hope, as always, is to become a palace that adds value to the community and one that neighbors can truly be proud to call home,” said the recent post.
Bereciartu was inspired by his grandmother’s dishes growing up in Venezuela. He worked with his family to create a pizza shop for the community soon after moving to Chicago. The current location also serves build-your-own pizzas, sandwiches, garlic bread and salad bowls.
The new pizza spot will be in the heart of Roscoe Village, next to the Maison Pasquale gourmet grocery store. Village Tap bar and grill, a popular bar in the area, is right across the street, so there is the potential for this to be a late-night attraction.
What Now Chicago has reached out to Bereciartu and is awaiting comment.
