The corner restaurant that opened last year is rebranding to the Geneva-based Mexican spot.
It was reported by The Daily Herald that Sweetchilango at 133 W Front Street in Wheaton is reopening as Bien Trucha. The Mexican spot has become known as a casual concept with cocktails. The last day for Sweetchilango will be on Nov. 1, and it will reopen as the new restaurant in about a month.
What Now Chicago previously reported on Sweetchilango opening in April 2024. It was meant to be a concept celebrating Mexico City, started by Julio Cano and his brother Rodrigo Cano. The brothers also own the Geneva Bien Trucha location at 410 W State Street.
The restaurant group has gained traction in recent years, with the openings of A Toda Madre in Glen Ellyn, Quiubo in Naperville, and Lil Donkeys Burritos in both Glen Ellyn and Naperville.
The new Bien Trucha’s menu is expected to be the same as Geneva’s with Mexican tacos, lunch bowls, para brunch featuring chilaquiles, and margaritas. The restaurant will be twice the size of the Geneva location, and is expected to have a modern, more upscale vibe.
The current hours of operation for Sweetchilango are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Sundays. The new restaurant’s hours have not been confirmed. Once Sweetchilango closes, construction on the interior will start.
What Now Chicago has reached out to the owners and is awaiting comment. For more information on the new Bien Trucha location, visit their Instagram @bientrucha.
