Following Chicago-area additions in Hyde Park, Andersonville, and Streeterville, Deerfield will soon welcome the healthy, fast-casual brand Sweetgreen at 755 Waukegan Road. An opening date for its newest Illinois location has not been announced by the company, but a D-Tales newsletter from the Village of Deerfield confirms the impending addition to the community.

Sweetgreen, now a Los Angeles-based company, has its origins in Washington D.C., where three friends at school were on the hunt for affordable, fresh food. They found that most food around them was either fast and unhealthy, or healthy but slow and more elevated. Their solution? Pioneering a fast-casual, healthy foods brand. The company began as a single storefront in 2007—today it is much more.

The company, which operates over 100 locations nation-wide as of 2021, serves up a menu of salads, ‘warm bowls,’ and sides. The warm bowls are often grain-based and come in varieties like the Curry Cauliflower, which offers roasted chicken, curry roasted cauliflower, shredded cabbage, cilantro, raisins, warm quinoa, arugula, Sweetgreen hot sauce, and peppercorn tahini dressing, and the Crispy Rice Bowl, which comes with blackened chicken, raw carrots, shredded cabbage, cucumbers, cilantro, roasted almonds, crispy rice, warm wild rice, arugula, lime squeeze, and spicy cashew dressing.

Through these bowls and salads, Sweetgreen aims to “build healthier communities by connection people to real food.” In addition, the company has committed to becoming carbon-neutral by the end of 2027.
