The Original Pancake House will soon find a new home in West Loop.
The new pancake house will be at 1124 W Washington Boulevard and will be opening around late July. Alex Sczurek, who will be managing the new location, is the fourth generation in her family to be taking on an Original Pancake House restaurant. Her parents are still the owners, and they are very passionate about the business and have been looking at expansion for a while.
“We knew we wanted to go into the West Loop neighborhood,” Sczurek told What Now Chicago.
While there are many pancakes to choose from at their locations, they also offer omelettes, skillets, eggs benedict, crepes, Belgian waffles and more. Their menus vary by restaurant.
The franchise started in 1953 by the Hueneke family in Portland, Oregon. From there, the Sczurek family opened a location in 1971 in Hyde Park, going on to expand to Lincoln Park, Gold Coast and Oak Forest. Lisa and Steve, Alex’s parents, then took over the business and are expanding to their sixth location.
Alex said the West Loop location will also have a new breakfast bar, which they had at their old Lincoln Park location and was popular. She added they wanted to keep the classic look while adhering to the upscale vibe of West Loop.
“It’s definitely going to be a different look,” Sczurek said.
The business already has photos of what the inside will look like. Another project they have is moving their Orland Park location to 16153 S LaGrange Road, just down the street from their current one. There are no updates on this as of now.
