Umi Premium Buffet Expanding to Aurora and Niles in Near Future

Sushi and crab rolls will be served at two new buffet-style restaurants in the suburbs.

A buffet-style sushi and seafood spot is bringing bold flavors to the Chicago suburbs.

Per a recent social media announcement, Umi Premium Buffet is opening two new locations in Chicagoland. The newest restaurants are coming to 4320 E New York Street in Aurora and at 8235 W Golf Road in Niles, and it marks the company’s first expansion into the area. There are no opening dates yet.

Umi Buffet has over 50 locations all around the country, in states including Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Ohio and Texas. The new Aurora location is going across the street form the Fox Valley Mall, and Niles’ is coming to the north side of the village, near the corner of N Milwaukee Avenue.

Popular items include the chilled stone crab claws, spicy cajun crawfish and snow crab legs. The word “umi” means “ocean” in Japanese, with fresh ingredients offered down the buffet line. The capacity of customers for the restaurants is around 250.

The company operates as a franchise, with the listed owner of the Aurora location being Wu Chen, and the Niles location Jacky Chen. What Now Chicago has reached out to Wu and is awaiting a response.
