According to an article from Block Club Chicago, VPT Grill and Tatas Kitchen & Grill will be partnering up at 5700 W Irving Park Road.

“VPT Grill and the restaurant’s famous deep-fried burger are making a comeback. The West Ridge restaurant closed in 2022 after a 50-year run.”

“Former customers still message VPT Grill asking when the restaurant will reopen, Resendiz said. However, VPT couldn’t fully recover from the hit business took during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the restaurant closed in October 2022.”

“Starting this week, VPT Grill will be partnering with Tatas Kitchen and Social, 5700 W. Irving Park Road, bringing their Latin-inspired burger menu to Portage Park. Marci Berner, co-owner of Tatas Kitchen and Social, said she was looking to switch up the restaurant’s menu.”

“Berner also owns Tatas Tacos, which has locations in Six Corners and Lakeview. Berner and co-owner Julia Paphitis started talking about bringing in guest chefs on weekends. Then they talked to Ivan Resendiz, owner of VPT Grill, and realized his burger menu was a perfect fit.”

“About 80 percent of the VPT Grill menu will be available at Tatas Kitchen and Social, Berner said. Some of Tatas’ menu items will remain, including the salad, quesadilla, and empanadas.”

“Tatas’ new burger menu will feature VPT favorites such as the Firecracker Burger, an Angus beef patty blended with bacon bits, roasted corn, and chopped jalapeño and topped with pepper jack cheese, pickled habanero, pickled red onions, and cilantro lime mayo.”

“Diners also will find the VPT burger, topped with applewood-smoked bacon, mushrooms, and onions sautéed in a smoky chipotle sauce, aged cheddar, and chipotle aioli.”

“And of course, there’s the deep-fried Black Hawk burger, a beer-battered, fried patty stuffed with cheddar cheese and topped with lettuce, fried pickles, and avocado aioli. All of VPT’s burgers can be made vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free.”
