Sivakumar Rajarathinam is introducing his new Indian restaurant to the suburb this November.

The Daily Herald recently reported a new restaurant called Indiyaana is set to open at 1301 American Lane. This is the former Schaumburg Banquet location. Rajarathinam told What Now Chicago the restaurant is a new brand, and it will also feature a bar inside.

Rajarathinam is one of the owners of Sai Ram Indian Cuisine based in Appleton, Wisconsin. He also recently acquired Madras Cafe, an Indian vegetarian restaurant. With 11 years of experience, he and his team found the space in Schaumburg and wanted to bring a new large Indian restaurant to Chicagoland.

“We want to take it to the next level,” Rajarathinam said.

Inside, new furniture is being added along with other small projects. A special-use permit from the Village of Schaumburg was recently approved, Rajarathinam expects preparation to take about a month, and the team is aiming to open by the second week of November.

The Indian cuisine served will be diverse as dishes from both the northern and southern parts of the country are on the menu. He is bringing a crew that has worked in five-star restaurants, including a chef named Jesu Santiagu Lambert who has 25 years in the industry. For the business model, Kumar also wanted to appeal to American customers, so there will also be a bar area serving continental food.

Indiyaana will be close to Woodfield Mall, with the nearest restaurant being Weber Grill. It is a 22,000-square-foot space that was a banquet hall. The space was also once a restaurant called Entourage.

No social media has been set up for the business yet. The business will soon have a marketing team to advertise the concept, and more information will be released soon.
