Barley’s Brewing Company is preparing for a major renovation at its downtown Columbus location, updating its longtime restaurant and bar while remaining open to customers during construction.

According to Columbus Underground, the brewery and restaurant plans to begin renovating its ground floor in late December 2026. During the work, operations will temporarily move to the building’s second floor, formerly home to Brewcadia, the retro arcade concept Barley’s opened in 2016.

The renovation is expected to continue through the winter, with a grand reopening planned for mid-to-late February 2027, provided construction stays on schedule.

Located at 467 N. High St. in Columbus, Barley’s Brewing Company first opened in 1992, before the nearby Greater Columbus Convention Center and Arena District helped reshape the surrounding downtown area. Over more than three decades, the brewery has become a longtime destination for craft beer, pub food and gatherings.

General Manager Ian Boyland told Columbus Underground that the surrounding area has changed considerably, with more restaurants, hotels and multi-location businesses entering the market. The renovation is intended to help Barley’s adapt to those changes while maintaining the character that has kept customers returning.

Owner Tiffany Sexton described the ground-floor project as primarily cosmetic, with plans for a brighter, more energetic atmosphere featuring additional lighting, music and televisions. The rear section of the restaurant will offer a quieter setting with updated furnishings.

The menu is also being reviewed, although the restaurant plans to retain longtime favorites. Boyland told Columbus Underground that customers can still expect staples such as burgers, grilled wings and sauerkraut balls, alongside potential additions designed to appeal to changing customer preferences.

The beverage program will continue to emphasize craft beer while expanding its selection of cocktails and mocktails. The restaurant also plans to introduce its first house-made seltzer on tap.

Once the main-floor renovation is complete, the upstairs space is expected to transition into a quieter lounge with a separate bar focused on bourbon, tequila, and cocktails. The arcade games and pinball machines previously housed in Brewcadia are expected to find new homes throughout the community.

Before construction begins, Barley’s plans to host its annual Anniversary and Christmas Ale Tapping event on Friday, Nov. 6, 2026. The gathering will include live music and the seasonal beer release.

The renovation marks a new chapter for the longtime Columbus establishment as it prepares to update its space while continuing to serve customers throughout construction.
