Kroger is moving forward with plans for a new Marketplace store in Hamilton, bringing a nearly $40 million investment to the Greater Cincinnati community.
According to Columbus Business First, the grocery giant will celebrate the start of construction on a new 123,000-square-foot Kroger Marketplace at 150 N. Brookwood Ave. The project carries a $37 million price tag and is expected to open in fall 2027.
The new store will replace the existing Kroger location at Hamilton Richmond Road and Main Street, which sits less than a mile from the planned development site.
Once completed, the Marketplace will offer an expanded selection of products and services not currently available at the existing store. Planned features include a Murray’s Cheese shop, coffee shop, pharmacy with a drive-thru, sushi counter, kitchenware department, and a fuel centre with 14 fuel pumps. Kroger Pickup services will also be available.
The store is expected to employ more than 250 associates.
Jake Cannon, president of Kroger’s Cincinnati/Dayton Division, told the publication mentioned above that the new Marketplace reflects Kroger’s ongoing commitment to the Hamilton community, creating new employment opportunities and expanding access to fresh food. He added that the project was made possible through collaboration with local and county officials.
The Marketplace will be built on an 11.7-acre site within the Hamilton West Shopping Center, approximately two miles northwest of downtown Hamilton. Hamilton City Council unanimously approved development plans for the project last year.
Property records show Kroger acquired the site in December 2025 for $2.9 million.
Kroger first established a presence in Hamilton in 1952, while the current store opened in 1989. Today, the company operates 71 stores across Greater Cincinnati and maintains a nearly 50% market share in the region.
