La Playa Maya has announced the permanent closure of its Stockyards location. The restaurant shared the closure announcement on social media. La Playa Maya will serve its final meal on July 5.
La Playa Maya Set to Close After Nearly Four Decades
The authentic Mexican restaurant, La Playa Maya, has been a local favorite for almost 40 years. The restaurant is located inside a historic 1913 brick building at 1540 N Main Street in Fort Worth. The restaurant is operated by Lupe and Letty Ayala.
The menu includes Tex-Mex dishes and coastal seafood specialties.
In a June 30 Facebook post, the restaurant announced the closure. The post stated, “After careful thought and consideration, our family has made the difficult decision to close our Stockyards location of La Playa Maya.”
“We have been honored to serve the Northside community since 1988, first at our original location off of Central, and then at this historic site on North Main. We want to thank the many families and friends who have entrusted us to host your celebrations and meals.”
The restaurant encouraged customers to visit before its final day of service on July 5.
Remaining Locations Will Remain Open
La Playa Maya will continue operating its three remaining restaurants in Fort Worth and Hudson Oaks. The locations include:
- Southside: 3200 Hemphill Street, Fort Worth
- Westside: 6209 Sunset Drive, Fort Worth
- Hudson Oaks: 3039 Fort Worth Hwy., Hudson Oaks
The team also shared, “We want to thank our employees who have served you all well over the years.”
Several longtime customers of the restaurant expressed their disappointment after the closure announcement. One customer commented, “I’ve loved that beautiful location for the charm and ambiance… I’m sure you will miss that beautiful space.”
With the Stockyards location of La Playa Maya closing, the Fort Worth dining community will lose a notable Mexican place.
