Denver’s popular bar Cap City Tavern will shut its doors permanently on July 27, 2025. After 18 years in business, the Denver bar will close its doors this week. Its owner, Dino McTaggart, along with his family, shared the news with patrons through social media.

Cap City Tavern, a longtime favorite in Denver’s Golden Triangle, will close on July 27. It made the announcement through its official website and an Instagram post.

The decision comes after Cap City Tavern’s 18 years of service at 1247 Bannock St., Denver, CO 80204. Owner Dino McTaggart said rising costs, including higher wages, food prices, and taxes, contributed to the difficult decision.

In its farewell message, the bar thanked patrons for 18 years of memories, from bingo brunches and birthday parties to sports nights and happy hours.

The last day of business at Cap City Tavern will be Sunday, July 27. Until then, the bar will remain open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., closed on Mondays. Guests can enjoy one last round of beers, cocktails, and casual eats like burgers and sandwiches.

Operations to Continue at Sister Bar ‘Bannock Street Garage’

While the news regarding Cap City Tavern has saddened patrons, they can visit Bannock Street Garage Bar, its sister bar, after the closure. The establishment is just two blocks away at 1015 Bannock St., Denver, CO 80204. The neighborhood bar offers a menu of pizzas, dips, and a full drink selection.

Even after closing, Cap City Tavern’s spirit will live on just two blocks away at Bannock Street Garage.
