A new Korean fried chicken restaurant is planned for Denver. Bonchon will take over restaurant space formerly housed by Pei Wei at 3970 Buchtel.
An application for a permit was recently filed with the city of Denver to renovate the space.
The restaurant’s website states Bonchon’s mission is to share Korean comfort food with the world. Menu items include wings, drums, and strips that are hand-battered, double fried, and hand-brushed with Bonchon’s signature sauce.
Apps include potstickers, edamame, and sliders. If you’re in the mood for something other than chicken, main dishes include Bulgogi, which is thinly sliced ribeye and vegetables served with white rice or Bibimbap—white rice, quinoa, vegetables, sesame seeds, egg, and sauce.
Bonchon first opened in South Korea in 2002, and founder Jinduk Seo later opened a location in New York. The franchise has grown to more than 110 locations with two in Colorado. One is located at 8302 E. Northfield Blvd. in Central Park, while the second location is at 6790 S. Cornerstar Way in Aurora.
There’s no word yet on when Bonchon will open on Buchtel.
