Doug’s Diner’s Fort Collins location, at 2842 Council Tree Ave. #143, closed temporarily amidst a legal battle between the former and current proprietors. However, The Coloradoan reports that the older ownership team has been reinstated and will reopen the spot soon.
Doug’s Diner is a local chain that began as Doug’s Day Diner, founded by Doug Weckerly. In 2014, Rick Bruening and Ermalinda Hernandez purchased the Fort Collins and Centennial locations and naming rights. Over the next decade, following years, they expanded to Greeley, Boulder, Thornton, Loveland, and Windsor.
Last summer, Bruening and Hernandez sold the Fort Collins and Greeley outposts to two different operators, Fort Fun Foodies Inc. and Girl Grub Inc., respectively. But this summer, Bruening and Hernandez filed a lawsuit involving claims of missed payments and alleged contract breaches; a countersuit for fraud was filed.
While proceedings are still in progress, it was announced recently that the previous owners will reopen those locations. Fort Collins will welcome guests first, followed shortly after by the Greeley spot.
