An upcoming craft brewery in Colorado Springs is undergoing some concept changes before doors are even open. According to the social media pages for Constellation Brewing, the company has been renamed to Armillary Brewing after a trademarking issue with a large-scale beverage brand.
“Apparently a brand manager feels that our name will confuse their customers. Our new name and brand is Armillary Brewing Company,” a post from last week from owners Jeff and Kristin Lockhart states.
Records show that the entity is Constellation Brands, Inc., a Fortune 500 company known for brands like Corona, Modelo, Robert Mondavi, and Kim Crawford. The corporation filed opposition to the Lockhart’s trademark filing in February, and the small brewery backed down to avoid legal drama.
They plan to serve house-made sourdough pizzas, paninis, and craft beer — something award-winning brewer Jeff is no stranger to. He’s helped open breweries like Ouray Brewing and Red Leg Brewing, earned a GABF Gold Medal, and won two World Beer Cup Bronze Medals.
A few months ago, the couple shared in a video that they hoped to be open by late summer or early fall; it is not clear if that is still a realistic timeline. The brand did not return a request for comment in time for publication.
