Grit and Grind Coffee Shop is opening its second Texas cafe. According to a recently filed permit with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the new cafe is expected to open in Montgomery’s April Sound neighborhood, in the West Lake Shopping Center at 15444 State Hwy 105 W, Suite C.

The permit also notes that construction on the Montgomery Grit & Grind Coffee Shop project started today and is slated to wrap up in mid-January of next year. If permitting goes smoothly and the estimated $300,000 construction project stays on track, the new Grit & Grind Coffee Shop should open by early 2027.

At the helm of the opening of the new 2,000-square-foot cafe is franchisee Mark Tennant, who was listed on the permit. What Now Houston reached out to Tennant to find out more about this exciting new development. Unfortunately, we did not hear back by the time of this publication.

“Grit + Grind Coffee began with a spark of determination to solve a problem in our community + a dream brewed over countless late nights,” the Grit & Grind Coffee Shop website reads.

“From the moment we opened our window, our mission was clear: to create more than just coffee—we wanted to build community, inspire hustle, and serve every cup with heart.”

Husband-and-wife duo Eric and Destiny Rowell founded Grit & Grind Coffee in Opp, Alabama, in 2022. The couple pivoted from their real estate careers in 2022 after properties became unavailable and they noticed a lack of local coffee options in their community. They launched using a mobile coffee trailer rather than opening an expensive brick-and-mortar shop right away.

Destiny—who did not previously drink or make coffee—taught herself specialty coffee preparation, while Eric focused on business operations and consulting. “Grit” honors Destiny’s resilience through challenges, while “Grind” represents Eric’s work ethic. After about a year of mobile operations and local mentorship, they expanded into licensing and eventually transitioned to a full-fledged franchise model.

On April 25, 2026, they officially opened their permanent headquarters and flagship coffee shop in Andalusia, Alabama. The brand has grown into a multi-state operation with locations spanning Alabama, Mississippi, Utah, Louisiana, and Texas. The brand now has 12 Grit & Grind Coffee Shops, including one in Santa Fe, Texas.

What Now also reached out to Rowell to find out more about expansion plans. But we did not hear back by the time of this publication.

“This season, we’re more inspired than ever—and we invite you to be part of the story. Whether it’s through a cup of coffee, a shared moment, or chasing a dream of your own, there’s room for everyone in this grind,” the brand’s website reads.

“The best is still brewing, and we’re so glad you’re here for it.”

Grit and Grind Coffee Shop is anticipated to open in the West Lake Shopping Center at 15444 State Hwy 105 W, Suite C, by early 2027.
