Katy’s food scene is about to get a little more tropical as Island Twist, a new smoothie bar concept, has been permitted for 28047 Stockdick School Rd #100. Co-Owners Ovaughn and Taylor Simon, seasoned entrepreneurs in logistics trucking and cleaning services, are now venturing into food hospitality for the first time. After conducting market research, they identified a gap in the local smoothie bar offerings and saw an opportunity to bring something fresh and distinctive to the area.
“We stand out by the ingredients we have,” Taylor told What Now Houston. She emphasized the bar’s unique selection of island-inspired and distinguished fruits that will bring a taste of the tropics to Houston. The menu will feature signature acai bowls, pressed juices, and a small café-style selection of island-influenced beverages.
Island Twist operating hours from 6:30 AM to 2:00 AM, a schedule shaped by community feedback and research. The extensive open-hours will cater to a broader customer base, from medical personnel to regular early morning risers and daytime clientele. As New York natives, the couple is accustomed to businesses running 24 hours and aims to bring a part of that culture to Katy as well.
Looking ahead, the Simons have their sights set on expanding the brand through an owner-operator franchise model, signaling this venture is just the beginning in their restaurant and hospitality journey.
The permit details show an estimated project cost of $90,000 for the 1,162-square-foot space, with construction scheduled to begin in June 2025 and completion expected by December 2025. Future patrons can follow their Instagram for further details as they are released.
