Protein Bar & Kitchen is set to make its Texas debut this year! As part of the $2.5 billion expansion project taking place at the reimagined Terminal B at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Protein Bar & Kitchen will open alongside three other tenants in the terminal. According to a recently filed permit, the buildout for the tenant fitout for the new Protein Bar & Kitchen and the three additional tenants set to open at 3100 North Terminal Road is almost underway.
The permit details that the $3.5 million construction project is expected to start in mid-July and is slated to wrap up before the end of October this year. If all goes well with the renovations of the 9,647 square foot space, the four tenants should be open by this fall.
Baldi Management Group is behind the concessions tenant fitout and general access seating area. Tenant operators include Protein Bar & Kitchen, Katz Coffee, Jersey Mike’s, and Smash Burger. The four eateries are expected to take up spaces BNW 7, 6, 7B, and 7C.
Protein Bar & Kitchen coming to IAH is part of a larger expansion for the brand. The health-first “fast-fuel” concept was founded in Chicago in 2009 by Matt Matros with a focus on healthy, protein-packed shakes. It has grown from a single, small storefront into a health-conscious, fast-casual chain offering high-protein bowls, salads, and wraps. Early this year, the company was acquired by Founders Table Restaurant Group, the parent company of Chopt.
Back in 2023, the plan was to bring a hundred locations nationwide over the course of five years. The Founders Table Restaurant group has been enlisted to help reach that goal. The growing health food chain consists of 15 corporate units and four licensed locations, making for a total of 19 Protein & Bar Kitchen locations largely centered around Chicago, with a growing presence in airports.
What Now Houstonreached out to Protetin Bar & Kitchen CEO & President Jeff Drake and Founders Table Restaurant Group CEO Nick Marsh to find out more details about the IAH opening, but did not hear back by the time of this publication.
