Boichik Bagels, a Bay Area bagel shop known for its New York-style bagels, is getting ready to open a new location in Los Angeles at 911 Westwood Boulevard.

The company’s third Los Angeles location will open in Westwood Village, following its shops in Los Feliz and Downtown Los Angeles, according to ToddRickAllen. An opening date has not been announced. Boichik Bagels is the passion project of founder Emily Winston, who grew up in central New Jersey and moved to the Bay Area in 2010. Customers can expect the company’s bagels and related offerings at the new Westwood Village location.

Winston started Boichik Bagels after becoming frustrated with the lack of what she considered proper bagels in the Bay Area. After learning that H&H Bagels on New York City’s Upper West Side had closed, she began a five-year process of developing her own bagel through trial and error. Friends encouraged her to sell the bagels, leading to pop-ups before she opened the company’s first brick-and-mortar location on College Avenue in Berkeley in November 2019.

The company has since expanded to locations throughout the Bay Area, as well as its two existing Los Angeles shops. According to the company’s website, its current stores include locations in Berkeley, Palo Alto, Larkspur, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Los Gatos, Concord, Los Feliz, and Downtown Los Angeles. The website also offers nationwide shipping, local pickup and delivery, catering and events, advance local orders, and custom bagels.

Boichik’s menu includes its bagels, along with options such as cream cheese and other bagel accompaniments. The company also offers seasonal items, including round challahs for Rosh Hashanah, with a saffron- and Slivovitz-soaked raisin version available for preorder. Its website notes that the bagels are made with premium, organic ingredients.

The company’s expansion into Westwood follows recognition from The New York Times, which included Boichik Bagels in its coverage titled “The Best Bagels Are In California.” The Westwood Village location will add another Los Angeles shop as the company continues expanding beyond the Bay Area.
