The Sycamore Kitchen has announced that it will be closing permanently after more than a decade in the neighborhood. The restaurant is known for its handcrafted pastries, seasonal salads, and more.

The Sycamore Kitchen Announces Upcoming Closure

The Sycamore Kitchen is a bakery-cafe and casual restaurant located at 143 S. La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles. The restaurant announced the news of its closure on social media. The restaurant thanked the community and staff for the 15 years of support. The post also hints at a new concept on the way.

“After 15 incredible years, it’s time for us to say goodbye,” reads the post. “While we are closing our doors here, we are looking forward to what’s next. Stay tuned.”

Chef-owners Karen and Quinn Hatfield opened The Sycamore Kitchen in 2012, six years after launching Hatfield’s, their Michelin-starred Los Angeles restaurant. The couple opened The Sycamore Kitchen as a more casual concept that is focused on high-quality baked goods, coffee, and approachable food.

The restaurant’s interior combines rustic and industrial elements. This includes its exposed brick and design details that are inspired by the building’s history as a print shop. The restaurant also became known for its outdoor seating and neighborhood cafe atmosphere.

Its menu includes items like Salted Caramel Pecan Babka, cookies, cakes, and other pastries. It also offers seasonal salads, house-baked bread, and coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Its breakfast and brunch menu offers pork belly hash, chilaquiles, Eggs Benedict, and breakfast sandwiches.

Community Reaction

The announcement drew responses from customers who said they had visited the restaurant for years.

One Instagram user wrote, “Hard pass. I cannot fathom nor accept this news. My kids were raised on the sticky pecan bun.”

Another customer wrote, “Literally moved to this neighborhood so I could walk to this place for lunch every weekend. This is heartbreaking.”

The Sycamore Kitchen’s upcoming closure will mark the end of a 15-year chapter in the Los Angeles dining scene.
