Silver Lake’s The Satellite, a 25-year-old music venue that has hosted acts including Foo Fighters and Lady Gaga, is removing its stage and becoming a restaurant, the company Friday announced on its Facebook page.
“To all of the Satellite fans out there, I am sorry to say that we will no longer be doing live shows or dance parties,” according to the social media post. “We would like to thank you for all the support you have [showed] us over the years.”
The Satellite closed its doors March 12 “after the bands started canceling shows due to the coronavirus and the government shutting down the bars and nightclubs just a few days later.” When The Satelite reopens later this year it will be completely redesigned to be “more of a place to get quality drinks and food.”
The COVID-19 pandemic “has really hit us hard,” the company wrote. “We can no longer afford to wait for the day we will be allowed to have shows again. If we do that, we will not have the money to continue and will be forced to close forever.”
The Satellite will be reopening its kitchen but the transformation will “not happen quickly” because of a lack of resources including funding. “We will be opening in the parking lot for food and drinks as soon as we have the kitchen reopened or the government lets us hire a food truck. We hope you will still support us during these tough times.”
