A New AR Glasses Pop-Up Is Opening at Westfield Century City

SPECS is opening its first pop-up store in Los Angeles. It will bring a unique experience to visitors, where they will be able to explore Lens experiences and more. Visitors can also place a pre-order for the glasses at the pop-up.

SPECS is Opening Its Pop-Up Store in LA

SPECS is bringing its first pop-up store to Westfield Century City in Los Angeles from October 2 through January 15. The store will give visitors a chance to try the company’s augmented reality glasses and explore different Lens experiences. Opening-day hours are from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

SPECS is a pair of augmented reality glasses developed by SPECS Inc.

According to the official site, the glasses feature a 51° field of view, a see-through waveguide display, open-ear stereo speakers, six MEMS microphones, and Swiss TR90 polymer frames. They weigh about 132g for the 47 mm model and 136g for the 52 mm model.

Some of the advertised uses include navigation and heads-up directions, live translation, and watching videos on a large virtual screen. The glasses also support games and interactive AR experiences, reading messages and interacting with digital content, digital measurement and other utilities, hands-free work and collaboration, and creative and social media experiences.

Specs Inc. is a technology company that is wholly owned by Snap Inc. Snap is the publicly traded technology company behind Snapchat. Specs Inc. is a newer dedicated subsidiary, but the technology comes from Snap’s much longer AR program.

SPECS are designed to go beyond traditional smart glasses. They contain a see-through AR display, allowing digital objects, information, and applications to appear within the user’s physical surroundings.

The new pop-up will give Los Angeles visitors a chance to experience SPECS’ augmented reality technology in person. The pop-up is free and open to the public beginning October 2 through January 15.
