Speakeasy Fitness, a Los Angeles gym brand known for its nightclub-style workout spaces, is preparing to open a new location at 1336 N. La Brea Ave.
The company purchased the 19,467-square-foot property, formerly occupied by the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and associated with the former A&M Records complex, according to BisNow. Speakeasy plans to open the new location in spring 2027. Speakeasy currently operates locations in Panorama City, Sylmar, Canoga Park, North Hollywood, Pasadena, and on Western Avenue south of Koreatown.
The planned gym will feature a black-and-gold design, based on a rendering included in the report. Speakeasy’s existing gyms are known for low lighting, loud music, and a focus on weights and strength training. Depending on the location, its gyms can also include group classes, pools, Jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms, basketball courts, and juice bars.
Amenities vary by location, with Speakeasy’s website highlighting group classes, sauna and steam rooms, pools and Jacuzzis, basketball courts, and juice bars. The company has not yet specified which amenities will be included at the La Brea location. Speakeasy also offers day passes and memberships, with customers required to be at least 18 years old and provide identification.
The La Brea project will add another location to Speakeasy Fitness’s presence across Los Angeles. The new gym will take over the former American Academy of Dramatic Arts property, which has remained vacant before the planned redevelopment.
