Could Chicago-style hot dogs be just around the corner in a new Memphis market? Cordova residents are certainly hoping so. The township has expressed a desire to bring popular Chicago street food concept, Portillo’s, to the area, and locals are buzzing at the possibility.

Residents shouldn’t start counting their hotdogs just yet. Cordova’s statement was more of a call to arms than an official announcement. The town’s post states: “Cordova is a highly populated and fast-growing area, with Germantown Parkway serving as one of the busiest retail corridors in the region. Many residents who have moved to Cordova from other states have said they would love to see a Portillo’s here, especially those who enjoyed it in their hometowns before relocating.”

The Town of Cordova Instagram page has proven surprisingly effective in drawing new businesses. Earlier this month the account expressed interest in bringing Cava to the area and the positive feedback has led the chain to considering the area for a new location. While this does not guarantee either a Cava or a Portillo’s, it does show that the social media account has a strong impact, giving locals reason for optimism.

Founded in 1963, Portillo’s currently has around 95 locations open across the United States, though none are presently located in Tennessee. Cordova residents have shown that there is a powerful local hunger for the chain’s hot dogs, beef and sausage sandwiches, and char-broiled burgers.
