Memphis is in for a culinary treat as Maciel’s Tortas & Tacos embarks on its third restaurant located at 3397 Summer Avenue. Situated in close proximity to Memphis’ Hispanic community, the upcoming location aims to transport diners to the heart of a Mexican taqueria.
Driven by a desire to cultivate authenticity in the space, owner Manuel Martínez conveyed that the open kitchen will allow patrons to watch chefs cook, creating a dynamic and engaging experience. Customers will even be able to chat with the chefs and request personalized orders. Additionally, the Summer Avenue restaurant will be the first Maciel’s location to introduce margaritas, adding a refreshing twist to the menu.
The most unique aspect of the third restaurant, however, will be the diverse taco-centric menu, offering a tour of Mexico’s culinary landscape. From carne asada in Monterrey to fish tacos from Nayarit, al pastor from Mexico City to cochinita pibil from southern Mexico, a flavorful journey awaits. Customers can also look forward to an on-site tortilla maker dedicated to crafting fresh tortillas daily.
With construction beginning in just two weeks, Martínez aims to open his doors by mid to late March 2024. He also expressed interest in expanding to East Memphis, despite high rent prices. Nevertheless, his unwavering commitment to offering dining experiences that are not only affordable but also deeply resonate with customers is a value that remains at the forefront of his mission.
In his own words, Martínez shares the driving force behind Maciel’s: “The customers… We love when our customers tell us, ‘I don’t like it like this, but if you fix it that way, it tastes better.’ And I promise you, sometimes we have fixed the menu according to those customers.”
